The Great Debate – Grade 6 debate on technology
It is often said that debate leads to greater understanding and progress, and a main component of our QAIS mission is to encourage inquiry and leadership. The recent Grade 6 debate on technology was a perfect example of students rising to the occasion to take on an important global issue: “Has technology made our lives better?”
Students investigated and researched the effects of technology throughout their unit, and they were able to present their arguments in front of a set of judges, as well as their peers, teachers, parents, and members of the QAIS administration.
Students from both teams impressed the audience with their show of respect, poise, and knowledge, as they delivered claims and refuted the opposing team. In the end, judges decided that technology has improved our lives; however, students from both teams should be commended for their ability to think critically and for inspiring civil discourse through debate.
