Shanghai or Bust! – Grade 5 & 6 experience Shanghai
5th and 6th grade students and teachers hopped on a plane last week to visit one of the most famous cities in the world, Shanghai. As part of their units of inquiry and in preparation for their upcoming PYP Exhibition, students visited popular tourist and historical areas to take in the sights and sounds of the big city.
Mr. Oussoren explained, “In addition to exploring ideas and asking questions related to technology, air pollution, animal extinction, and ocean health, students also got a chance to see many parts of the city. From the explosion of modernity that is Pu Dong, to the ancient water town of Zhujiajiao, to the Shanghai Museum, their exploration helped paint a picture of the city’s growth from a humble fishing village to a city of 24 million.” Further adding, “The kids were great! For many, it was their first time away from home, offering even more opportunities for growth and learning.”
Additionally, students were able to enjoy a spectacular Shanghai view from the 100th floor of a giant skyscraper, as well as the “mesmerizing” acrobatic feats and showmanship of the performers in the Era circus show. The kids, along with chaperones Mr. Oussoren, Mr. Skinner, and Ms. Hailey, arrived back in Qingdao late Friday night, just in time to have sweet dreams of their memorable time away.
