Secondary Language Fair
Last week, IB Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme students used language to connect with others, sharing everything from personal feelings to cultural wonders in their MYP Language Fair. Grades 9/10 and 7/8 Language A: English classes held poetry events with Elementary students, where they shared about the different forms of poetry, how to correctly read poetry, how to identify poetic devices in poetry, how to analyze poetry for dramatic situation for meaning. During the visit, the older students worked with the younger students to guide them in writing their own “I Am” poem, and helped them practice reading it.
IB Diploma Programme English students worked with students to create and present their own graphic novels!
Chinese language students in Grades 7 and 8 researched their favorite myths and legends, and presented them to Grade 4 (in Chinese), reflecting on how myths evolve and are connected to real life. Grades 9 and 10 presented on traditional costumes from around the world, giving demonstrations of their use and discussing each costume’s connection to its culture. Others researched and presented on particular countries’ World Heritage Sites, describing natural and cultural wonders in Iran, China, and elsewhere that speak to incredible phenomena and creative genius.
