MYP Language Acquisition – Creativity and Innovation
The MYP Language Acquisition Phase 2 students are studying a unit on “Technology” with a focus on innovation and creativity. These contexts and concepts provide the basis for students to develop research and creative thinking approaches to learning. Their aim is to inquire about the benefits and problems of different technologies. Students address the inquiry statement by viewing videos of different technologies, and research and present features of specific technologies that interest them. The language focus is on using the future tense, with the assistance of text books that provide a structured approach.
In the picture you can see that the students are busy at work. At this time they are writing answers to comprehension questions based on the video they watched that presented past, present, and future mobile phone technology. The comprehension questions are developed using the International Baccalaureate MYP assessment criteria. Later, students will research, prepare, practice, and present benefits and problems of a future technology that fascinates them. Students use the video presentation they watched earlier to scaffold their constructions of their presentations.
