Music Circle in the Bamboo Cottage
(Apologies, this video requires YouTube!)
Montessori Toddler Teacher Emilie La Roux has played clarinet with symphonies back in Michigan, USA, but recently her favorite collaborators are her students in the Bamboo Cottage at QAIS! Ms. Emilie has been bringing her clarinet to Circle Time, demonstrating how she puts it together, and playing familiar songs. The children join in with their voices, hands, and rhythm instruments!
In her observations over one hundred years ago, Dr. Maria Montessori noted that toddlers’ minds are constantly absorbing from the world around them. Having a caregiver perform with a musical instrument increases the likelihood that the children themselves will take up a musical instrument. By being encouraged to play along, the children build skill and confidence expressing themselves musically.
