Grades 7 and 8 Explore Fujian Province

April 18-22, Qingdao Amerasia International School IB Middle Years Programme students in grades 7 and 8 explored traditional ways of life in China’s beautiful Fujian Province!

They visited Tianluokeng Cluster, a group of tulou buildings which exemplify the communal style of living that flourished in the area from the 16th to 18th century. Tulou buildings are made of earth and wood, and provide comfortable living and commercial space for hundreds (or over a thousand) people. Tianluokeng is one of the best-known tulou sites, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

QAIS students also visited the Yunshuiyao ancient village, planted crops, visited a tea plantation, and practiced cooking outdoors on brick stoves.

QAIS students have multiple opportunities to engage with new cultures and ways of living each year. Our Secondary students take multiple school trips, within the region and overseas. We are thankful for the support of their families and teachers in carrying out excursions like this one!
