Grades 5 and 6 Visit ‘Solar Farm’

Last Friday, Grades 5 and 6 took a field trip to visit Huasheng Green Energy in Jimo (a sub-city of Qingdao), as part of their IB Primary Years Programme unit on How the World Works! Their Central Idea is that “Energy is used to support life, but its use comes at a cost,” and they took the  opportunity to explore green energy.

Huasheng has a unique business model, producing components for solar and wind energy for sale, and then also harnessing renewable energy to run their own large scale farms. Students are able to see firsthand how these technologies create energy from renewable sources, and also experience some of the possibilities that come from large-scale application of these emissions-free energy systems.
