Grade 2 Shares the Power of Poetry
Last Thursday, IB Primary Years Programme Grade 2 students shared the original poems they had written in connection with their recent unit of inquiry! Parents and friends attended the celebration, and heard the students’ perspectives on being at home and at school, paper and pencils, rain, and other aspects of their experience.
In their recent unit on How We Express Ourselves, Grade 2 explored the idea that “Poetry is a unique and powerful form of expression.” They have looked at literary devices that poets use, how poetry is similar to and different from other forms of communication, and how poetry can help them to communicate their feelings, ideas, and perceptions.
It is always impressive to see our students express themselves with confidence, and this celebration was a precious opportunity to hear their points of view in powerful ways.
