AP Environmental Science and Grades 5/6 visit Solar Farm
On Tuesday, February 18th, QAIS students got to see renewable energy taking on global challenges, as they visited the NESI Solar Farm in Jimo district. The QAIS delegation included 12th graders in the AP Environmental Science class, with teacher Mark Brierley, and Grades 5/6 with teacher Emily Hurd.
All of the electricity used in the Solar Farm comes from photovoltaic panels, which they also produce for export. Leftover electricity is sold back to the state grid.
Students had the opportunity to see all of this work up close and ask detailed questions about the manufacturing of the solar panels, the materials used, the environmental impact of both renewable and non-renewable energy practices, and much more.
