Qingdao in History - Grades 5 and 6 Field Trip

Did you know that the German Governor of Qingdao, who built the beautiful Governor’s Mansion at the beginning of the 20th Century, was fired when the German Chancellor got the bill for construction? Or that the protest against foreign occupation in Qingdao, held in Beijing on May 4th, 1919, helped to launch the Communist Party?

While the city of Qingdao is comparatively young, it has played an outsize role in China’s international affairs over the last 120 years. Last Friday, International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Grades 5 and 6 took a field trip to explore the local history of Qingdao, with particular focus on how events in this city have impacted the world.
