• We Celebrate Peace
The International Day of Peace is our first community event of the academic year. We believe that peace is the work of education, and throughout the year we learn how to promote peace in our community and in our world.
  • We Perform
At QAIS, every student shines. Performance and confidence are important skills for effective communication, and we ensure that every child has multiple opportunities to build these skills.
  • We Have Fun
Community events like the annual Family Fun Run are a great way to get out and make friends in Qingdao! The city provides a beautiful, inspiring backdrop to world-class education.
  • We Have Friends Around the World
In 2013, the Missouri State University Chamber Orchestra chose QAIS as the first stop on their first China tour! The orchestra gave an exclusive performance to QAIS students ages 3-18 in our auditorium. We regularly receive consultants, researchers, and other visitors from around the world.
  • We are Active Inquirers
QAIS students seek knowledge, and love to share their understanding with others. Presentations are often held at the end of a Unit of Inquiry, for Primary classes to share the work they have done.
  • We Like to Get Together
We take every opportunity to promote social and emotional development, through team building and co-curricular activities in multi-age groups.
  • We Travel
Every year, Secondary students take at least two overnight trips. In April, 2014, we took our first international trip, to London, England.
  • We are Reflective

  • We are Communicators
While they were learning about the artist Keith Haring, Grade 2 students researched, sketched, developed, and painted a gorgeous mural on our wall. Thank you, Grade 2!

A Lifelong Love of Learning

We are dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of learning every day, in our teaching, in our facilities, and throughout our community. QAIS is the first International Baccalaureate World School in Shandong Province, and we are also the first school in Asia to pursue full accreditation from the American Montessori Society.

We welcome international families to visit our campus, observe our classes in action, and see how QAIS prepares children to be global citizens.

  • Independence. Concentration. Love of Learning. These three characteristics are among the most noticeable outcomes of a Montessori education. Children learn experientially, manipulating specially-designed materials to attain deep understanding of practical and intellectual concepts. Language, Mathematics, Science/Social Studies, Practical Life and Sensorial Education are all part of the program, helping students learn that they control their own education, even from an early age. • The Primary Years Program (PYP), for students ages 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child, nurturing their emotional, social, language, cognitive, and physical needs. The PYP curriculum therefore balances the acquisition of knowledge, concepts and skills, with the reinforcement of positive attitudes and student-initiated action. The PYP is the result of years of research that carefully examined a variety of national systems and independent schools. The aim of PYP is to develop internationally minded learners who are inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring, that help to create a better more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

The Middle Years Program provides a framework of learning which encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and to the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement, qualities that are essential for life in the 21st century.

The Diploma Program (DP) is designed as an academically challenging and balanced program of education with final examinations that prepares students, normally aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. The program is normally taught over two years and has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities.

  • All teachers at QAIS are IB-certified, including Music, Art, Physical Education, and Chinese. Every student at QAIS receives daily instruction in Mandarin, with mother-tongue students exceeding local standards for Chinese language study.
